P0171 & P0174 Restricted Performance (Resolved) I got the dreaded Restricted Performance message on the way back from the Tan Hill meet. Car goes into limp mode and wont go past 3k rpm. I few things I noticed, the earth behind the headlight sheered off when I touched it, so this was renewed. Posted on Sep 16, 2009. SOURCE: check engine light is on,display says restricted performance. Anything can cause the check engine light to go on from a loose gas cap, to a transmission issue. When the onboard computer detects an issue, it will restrict performance so as to not damage the engine any further. An Oil change won't affect this light. First Name: Jon. Jaguar Model: XF. I know it needs to be plugged in and diagnosed, but my local indy dealer is awash with work after lockdown. #2 · Jun 19, 2010 "restricted perfomance" can be the consequence of many causes. I would recommend to have somebody read the OBD signals, this should lead to one or more directions, where to look more closely. Some possilibities, that come to my mind, are: I own a 2006 Jaguar s type xs . The warning Restricted Performance has been coming on after about five minutes driving and showing both amber and red warning lights . The car however is driving fine, … read more . If I drive my 2003 S Type R a short distance, say 100-1000 yards, or even just up the drive way (25 yards) the next time I restart the car I get a restricted performance notice on the dash. If I drive the car for around half an hour, or let it idle for the same period, then turn it off and restart the warning has cleared, and does not return. Filled the tank with regular (91) petrol (gasoline). Then driving up a long grade, with the transmission occasionally shifting down to keep up speed, the "restricted performance" warning message came on with an amber warning light. I reduced driving to about 80-90 kph, driving gently. Shine the light up towards the location of the hood latch and locate the latch release cable, Reach in with the pliers and grab the cable as close to the latch as possible. Once you have a firm grip on the cable, pull on it in the direction it naturally moves (i.e., towards the fender or down, depending on its routing). I had the engine check/warning light come on (my car is a 2002 XKR 4.0) a few weeks back, and checked the ODB code - P1646. I read up a lot on this code and it seems for my car it means "Fuel pump relay 2 malfunction" rather than something to do with the O2 sensors. As the car was driving fine I tried resetting the code and kept my eye on it. TLDR: 2003 Jag S-Type R starts with “restricted performance” on and struggles to get up to 30mph. Codes are P0191 and P1338. Occurred immediately after replacing fuel filter. Thanks for reading. Tom_Thomas (Tom Thomas - Patron) June 17, 2023, 3:11am 2.
