We’re big fans of how the new watch looks, but there’s some confusion to be had as to which size to order. Along with the aesthetic redesign, Apple has also increased the overall size of both of the Apple Watch sizes it previously offered. That means that the 38mm watch is now 40mm, and the previous 42mm is now 44mm. 20% makes all the difference. One of the headline upgrades on the Apple Watch 7 is its larger screen, which is roughly 20% bigger than on the Apple Watch 6. That’s achieved through a slightly Advertising Message. In the 1990s, the typical size for a men’s watch was in the 37-39mm wide range. A few years later that size went up to 41-44mm, and by the mid 2000s it was common to see watches sized from 45-48mm wide (and even larger). Historically men’s watches were perhaps 35-37mm wide, though in the 1970s we did see a lot of larger I purchased the 40mm first because I thought it would be the perfect size. It wasn’t, but I was afraid of going too big. I checked out the Apple store a few times looking at the 44mm and finally got it. Couldn’t be happier with my watch now. It’s not a major upgrade over the Apple Watch Series 8 in terms of features, but it does introduce some useful updates. What's new is the S9 . Apple Watch Series 4, 5, 6, and SE are available in 40mm and 44mm sizes. Apple Watch Series 7 and 8 come in 41mm and 45mm sizes, respectively, a 1mm increase over previous generations. The Apple Watch Ultra is only available in a 49mm size. However, the Apple Watch Ultra isn't a great choice for most people. In other words, all bands for 38mm and 40mm cases are compatible with each other, as are all bands for 42mm and 44mm cases. Back before Woodstock, a man’s dress watch was 32mm. Young’uns don’t know it wasn’t always like this. Or perhaps they think men were pygmies a generation or two back. The times, they changed. But why? . . . Mine’s 145mm, and I get the smaller versions (so far S3 & S5) the larger one looked ridiculous on me. Like an iPad stuck to my arm. The larger sports bands are too big for me on the smallest hole. I pass my watch onto my wife who has 140mm wrists.. so yeah, don’t stress it. The smaller version is plenty big enough.
